Protest Prints

Posters inspired by Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” and its powerful representations of racism and Blackness.

The events of Lee’s film take place over the hottest day of the summer with the extreme heat largely visualized through yellows, reds, oranges, and earth tones. These warm colors also work to express the community’s intense emotions as they illustrate the underlying hate and racial tension that is present amongst the characters. Paying homage to this use of color, these prints apply a similar palette to playful Afro-centric patterns and feature several quotations from the film.
